Contact lens stuff/glasses
The nightly chemical process familiar to contact-lens wearers is a mystery to me, but I did meet one guy who had spent two days searching for a particular type of solution in France. Even though the odds are good that gallons of whatever you need are no farther than the nearest pharmacy, brands may differ, and finding exactly what you’re used to may be difficult. For simplicity, bring plenty of whatever solutions you need, and you may end up helping others.
When Theodore Roosevelt went charging up San Juan Hill with the Rough Riders, he had a dozen pairs of glasses: one in every possible pocket. This kind of planning is not a bad idea if you wear glasses, I would say three pairs are optimal, since it allows you to break one, lose one, and still keep going. Contact-lens wearers - bring more lenses than you think you will need. Or, bring a supply of disposables and skip the nightly cleaning ritual entirely.
