Travel Packs

A travel pack is basically soft luggage, with a very simple internal frame, shoulder straps, a waist belt, and a flap that can be used to cover the straps and belt and convert the whole thing into a suitcase. These packs are probably the best choice for most travelers, especially those not intending to do much hiking with their packs on. They certainly are extremely popular, although they are marginal at best for long walks, and anything over a mile or two with one is going to be unpleasant, especially if the pack is fully loaded. For short walks, however, they are fine, and light years better than duffle bags or suitcases. A major plus of travel packs is that they usually have a zipper around the perimeter of the bag that allows the whole pack to be split open, thus avoiding lots of digging and groping around. Since travel packs are designed for travel rather than hiking, they can almost always be locked up - a very handy feature. Cost: SI 50-250.
