Seven worthwhile spots you might overlook
3. London’s Imperial War Museum. Tons of real equipment and some very moving displays. The films of the liberation ot Belsen concentration camp are about as horrible as anything ever captured on film, and are definitely not for children. If the British seem a bit proud of their victory over the Germans in World War II, remember that the German occupation plan called for exporting the entire adult male population to the continent as slaves.
4. Herculaneum. This Roman town was buried in the same volcanic eruption as Pompeii. As such, it is a similar site, but much les touristy. Excavation is still going on.
5.The Alhambra, Granada, Spain. The fortress of the last of the Moorish rulers of southern Spain, and one of the most romantic of all European monuments. Granada is a bit hard to get to by train, but the Alhambra is worth the trip. By all means, visit the gardens of the Generalife while you’re there.
