Top Ten Museums and Galleries

These are the big ones - the ones you can’t miss if you’re anywhere nearby.

1. National Gallery, London. The pride of Britain - a beautiful museum, right on Trafalgar Square, with free admission and dozens of magnificent paintings. These include a Leonardo, brilliant works by Rembrandt, Velazquez, Rubens, Monet, Van Gogh, and many others. If you see one thing in London, see this museum.

2. Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Three Verrneers, and more Rembrandts than you can shake a brush at. Strong in Dutch paintings, of course, and right around the corner from the Van Gogh Museum. Notice that one of the Vermeers is not nearly as beautiful as the other two: even great artists can’t be great all of the time.
