Theft from Cars
Theft from Cars
Rental cars are viewed by thieves the world over as mobile piggy banks. Tactics for crime prevention with cars are simple:
- Try not to rent or buy a car without a separate. lockable trunk. Be advised that this can be difficult. The smallest and cheapest rental cars are usually hatchbacks.
- Never park a car, especially a rental car, with anything of the slightest value visible inside. It is even worth pulling out the cover to the back of a hatchback to demonstrate its emptiness.
- At night, even though it’s a royal pain in the neck, carry everything you can’t afford to lose up to your room, lock the rest in the trunk, and leave the glove compartment open and empty.
- On the road, especially in a rental car, beware if someone motions you to pull over, especially if you are female, and especially if two or more males are in the other car. If your car is running well, pull over at the next gas station, if at all.
