Time Zones
When making all of these intercontinental connections, remember your time zones: the Atlantic is five hours wide, from the East Coast of North America to Great Britain, Iceland, Ireland, and Portugal. To everywhere else in Europe, add one more hour, except for Finland, Greece, Romania, and Bulgaria, where you add two more; for Russia you should add three hours. Australians should think of the bulk of Europe as being nine hours behind Sydney, adding on an extra hour for Britain, etc, and losing one for Greece and the rest.
For all travelers, especially those from Down Under who deal with the confusing International Date Line, a dual-time watch will make the issue much simpler - leave one on home time, set one to local, and you’re good to go. Finally, remember to add or subtract an hour to that watch crossing the English Channel; it’s easy to forget, given the short distance you’re traveling. As always, a picture says it better than a paragraph, so have a look at the map on p.150-151.
