Modern Hostels
Modern Hostels
Back in the Dark Ages, hostels were different than they are today. They were exclusively for the young, they closed during the day, there was a curfew at night, every guest was assigned chores, and supposedly more than a few were run like prisons by power-crazed wardens. I tell you this because any or all of these quaint features may still be present at the hostel you stay in. Chores have pretty much gone the way of the dodo, as have age restrictions. Some, I would guess maybe half of all hostels, impose some kind of lock-out so they can clean the place - usually from 10am to 3pm - but late-night curfews are getting few and far between, which can be unfortunate, as one drunk can wake up forty other people. Finally, I have yet to meet the proverbial “Attila the Warden.”
