- The more shops you visit or call, the more comfortable you will be with the whole process. Start early, have your plans together, don’t let yourself be pressured, and you will be fine.
- When booking a ticket, be careful if you are making a connecting flight either to or from Europe. It can take a long time to get through the arrival procedures in any airport. For example, let’s say you’re flying back to Toronto, and then catching a connecting flight to Winnipeg. To schedule that next flight, include the time needed to empty a 747, claim your bags, clear immigration, clear customs, and get to the other plane - about three hours. If you are changing airports, such as going from JFK to Newark in the States, allow at least four hours. The same applies if you are connecting to another flight after your first landing in Europe: allow at least three hours between your takeoff and landing times. Call the airlines involved to get their minimum times required to check in and make your connection, but do not allow less than three hours, no matter what they say is possible.
